As a child I was shy, overweight and had low self esteem because I wasn’t fit like the other kids. When I moved from Puerto Rico to the US in Middle School, it became clear to me that the PE program was better in the US than in Puerto Rico. Because of this, I started being more active and athletic. My self-esteem improved and I liked the way that I was feeling. I was still a shy kid but I was finally fit. I have enjoyed fitness ever since.
My passion for fitness grew in high school. Back then, my main goal was to join the professional wrestling industry. Wrestlers in the industry are huge and athletic, so I decided to join football for the athleticism. I also started studying muscle & fitness magazines for bodybuilding inspiration.
After I graduated from college in 2006, I became a certified Personal Trainer. As I continued learning about the fitness industry and understanding the mechanics of the human body, I started moving away from bodybuilding. Bodybuilding doesn’t reflect the training style I practice now.
In the beginning, personal training was a side job to allow my shoulder to recover from an injury. After a short while, during the recession, I started working outside of the fitness industry for about 4 years.
One afternoon while picking up my kids from school, I saw one of my previous clients whom I had told 4 years earlier that if she doesn’t change her habits she could develop a serious health issue. She looked a little heavier and looked as though she had had a stroke. At that point I remembered why I liked being a trainer; to help my clients change their lifestyle and help them reach their fitness goals. Even though my personal training career started as a side job, it later grew out to be more than that. I was helping my clients get results which inspired me to help many more.
I believe you can achieve a lot of goals through fitness, because it is a battle against yourself. My clients are happy, excited to work out and have a “never-give-up” attitude. They share their hopes and feelings of accomplishment and I have the privilege of celebrating that with them.
Once you know your limits you can challenge them through fitness and be a better version of yourself. I myself, just like you, have gone through several personal life changes and struggles. These struggles have given me this “over-the-edge” attitude that I needed in order to have an impact on more people’s lives.
I am a very knowledgeable trainer with over 12 years of experience who can help you achieve which ever goal you have. My goal is not only to help you reach your goals but also to educate you and share my knowledge of fitness so that your healthy lifestyle sticks for life.

Nancy met and hired Rafael as her personal trainer in 2017 and became a fast fan of his methods. She is currently preparing for ther Certified Personal Trainer certification through NASM. She hopes to help people find the best way to take care of their health implementing Rafael's fitness philosophy. When I was a little girl there were three things I liked to play the most; movie director, office boss and stunt double. I haven't gotten to do the stunt double part yet but I am hoping someday soon I can get there, I'm still recovering from a broken ankle!
As for the other two things, being a part of Rafael PT Fitness allows me to be an "office boss" and movie director! I love my job and I love that we help people change their lives. I've struggled with weight loss and maintenance my entire adult life. I believe being able to empathize with our clients is one of the most important things we can do to help them set realistic goals and then achieve them.
