Lose weight by walking – Not just moving on the treadmill

Lose weight by walking is the first thing people think of when their doctor tells them to lose weight. Some people have to lose weight either because their doctor said, “hey you need to start losing weight” or, you need to lower your weight because you have low blood pressure or high cholesterol or your sugar levels are high.

Can I lose weight by walking 30 minutes everyday?

Automatically people will sign up to a gym and spend about $30 or $40 bucks and the first thing they're going to do is go to the treadmill for about 45 mins to an hour - three or four days a week.

What you need to realize is, yeah, in the beginning, the first week or two, your body's not used to that and you're going to burn some calories and lose weight by walking. But you're not going to get the same results that you were getting when you first started.


There are better ways

The second thing is you just signed up for a membership and the first thing you want to do is just use that cardio machine. So for $30 a month you're just using a treadmill to try to lose weight by walking.

Subconsciously you don't want to do anything, you don't know what to do. You don't have any clue on how to lose weight or how to exercise. So you automatically go to the treadmill and you just put it at something like a brisk walk to get you going. But the truth is that is not going to give the result that you need.

How much do you have to walk to lose weight?

You need to do more to lose weight. If you want to walk, walk outside. There are parks out there that have shade. There's stuff that you can do to get better cardio than just doing the treadmill.

Also, you are probably going to be doing the elliptical and that is kind of the same concept, but with much fewer results.


Is walking enough exercise?

You need to figure out your actual WHY. I mean when the doctor tells you when a health professional tells you “You need to lose weight because your BMI is too high”, or “your cholesterol or blood pressure is too high” you’ve got some serious health condition. You cannot go straight to a treadmill and expect to get massive results instantly.

That’s not how it works. Your body is designed to be active, we’re the prime species in the world. It’s designed to go out there.

To lose weight by walking, I do recommend you go outside, do your walking, start doing a little bit of jogging.


To Lose Weight by Walking Do This

Like me personally, I will have you go for hikes, go to the park for about 30-45 minutes walking the dog. If you don't have a dog, you just brisk walk you’re going to get a lot better results doing cardio like that than just getting on the treadmill.

I would put someone on the treadmill right after they have like triple bypass or double bypass a bypass or some type of surgery that has to deal with your heart. Once they get cleared from the doctor, the physical therapists going to put them on either walk a little bit on the hallway or use that treadmill as therapy work but not too much to where it’s going to overstress the heart.

You're not in that position to be over stressing the heart so you're going to be fine. As long as you keep your target heart rate to about 65%- 70% of your maximum heart rate you should be good to go.
