Self-improvement for better health.
We can't fully appreciate the details, composition, and subject matter of an object like a painting if we're staring at it from a distance of just an inch. But if we push ourselves, we can get a better sense of the whole picture.
We all reach a point in our lives where we are open to making substantial changes and gaining a wealth of new, illuminating knowledge that will help us reach our full potential.
Until then, we might miss the obvious even when it's right in front of our eyes. We usually wait until things are going so wrong to finally decide to make changes to our lives. Consider the "frog" analogy:
- Put Frog A into some hot water and see what happens. Basically, the sudden drop in water temperature is too much for him to handle.
- Then put Frog B in lukewarm water, turn on the gas, and see what happens. Until the water reaches a certain temperature, you must wait.
In general, human beings are just like Frog B.
Learning from Pain
Every human being may learn something valuable from the experience of pain. Often, it takes adversity for us to finally see the signs we've been ignoring. When do we finally realize we have to make dietary changes? When we start noticing inflammation, sore muscles, and excess visceral fat.
At what point should we stop eating chocolate and other sweets? When we notice sugar crashes and suffer from headaches or sugar hangovers. What triggers the recognition that it's time to give up cigarettes? The moment our lungs start acting up.
When is the best time to ask for guidance and coaching? When we wake up tomorrow extremely sore and possibly injured and realize we are working hard, not smart.
When life seems to be coming apart around us, that's usually when we realize we have the power to change things for the better inside of ourselves. As difficult as it is to consider things from a new angle, this is how we now feel and think. However, when we make an effort to put off making a change, the agony of the shift becomes much more intense.
Change is Inevitable
No matter how much we resist it, change is inevitable. Every person has a turning point in their lives where they realize it is in their best interest to make positive changes, not because the world or their friends told them to or because they were nagged about it.
Self-improvement isn't everyone's favorite concept, but if we change our perspective, we may find that the journey itself is rewarding, rather than a chore to be endured until the end result is achieved.
As an example, if you went to the gym three times a week, you'd be healthier, if you read books instead of scrolling on social media, you'd gain a deeper understanding of the world, and if you went out with your friends and coworkers, you'd be able to relax and unwind.
In addition, as you begin to take things less seriously and find more joy in life, you will have discovered the secret to unlocking your power of self-improvement.
